£7 million boost for crookfur

Around £7million will be invested in Crookfur primary and nursery school as 
part of the Scottish Government’s Schools for the Future programme.

The funding boost means Crookfur will have a capacity of 420 pupil places and 90 nursery places when the work is completed.

Ms Constance dropped in on class at the Newton Mearns school last week to make the announcement.

Speaking there, she said:”Providing high quality learning is at the heart of 
the Scottish Government’s work.

“We are committed to delivering well designed, sustainable schools through our Scotland’s Schools for the Future programme.

“In addition to the 
educational benefits, the school will also provide 
amenities for the wider community and will boost the local economies, creating 
apprenticeship opportunities for young people and construction jobs across the country.”

Council leader Jim Fletcher joined the minister on her visit.

He said: “This investment will enable us to provide the children and staff with a 
new building that will look and feel like a whole new school.

“The parents and the wider community will also be able to benefit from the greatly revamped facilities.

“Crookfur is our school building that’s most in need of investment.”

And noting other developments, Councillor Fletcher added: “The standard of education here is of a high quality and it will be fitting for the children to have a building that matches the excellent work undertaken by them, with the support of their teachers and parents.

“This is another improvement in the educational estate in East Renfrewshire with our other major new projects including a new family centre for Busby and Clarkston, a new Barrhead high school, and a new faith schools joint campus.”

Work on Crookfur’s school is expected to complete in Spring 2017.
