£90,000 for Wee Moss Playpark, Carluke

PLANS for the renovation of the Wee Moss playpark in Carluke have been given a massive thumbs up.

South Lanarkshire Council has confirmed that it will spend 90,000 on the playpark, following the removal of the play area next to Loch Park Stadium.

The project will be funded from the sale of Loch Park to supermarket giant Tesco and it is hoped work could start as early as next month.

The plans, which can be viewed at Carluke Lifestyles Centre, include two new multi-play units, a toddlers play facility, wheelchair accessible picnic tables, junior swings, activity boards and spring see-saws.

Clydesdale West councillor Eileen Logan has been spearheading efforts for an improved Wee Moss for many years.

She said: "With the playpark at the stadium being removed because of the Tesco development, I thought it would be an ideal time to upgrade the Wee Moss so I'm delighted."

The park is in Mount Stewart Street, beside the police station.

The contract is currently out to tender.

In 2008 members of local mother and toddler group the Stork Club contacted the Gazette to voice their displeasure at the state of Carluke's playparks, including the Wee Moss.

Stork Club member Lynn McFarlane said: "It's certainly going to be a lot better than the facilities the playpark has at the moment."
