Public urged to vote in European election

The 24 polling places across the area will be open from 7am to 10pm on the day of the election.

Any voter who arrives at their polling station and is in a queue waiting to vote at 10pm will still be able to vote. Once the polls have closed, East Renfrewshire’s votes will be counted, overseen by Local Returning Officer Lorraine McMillan.

The totals for each counting area will be reported to the Regional Returning Officer (RRO) in Edinburgh, who will declare the total votes cast for each party or individual candidate across Scotland and announce how the six Scottish seats have been allocated.

In East Renfrewshire, the count will be carried out on Sunday May 26, as this is when polling will close across the whole of the European Union. However, the results in Scotland will not be declared until Monday May 27, as the Western Isles are not conducting their count until then.
