Pupils challenged to project Europe onto the big screen

Lenzie Academy will take on five other top teams from schools across Scotland on Monday, February 2, at the Scottish European Educational Trust’s ‘Our Europe Film Competition 2014-15’ at SocietyM in Glasgow.

In the initial stage of the competition, teams of four S3-S6 pupils were asked to submit storyboards, which made use of at least one European language other than English, explaining their ideas for a short film about how being an EU citizen affects them.

This year 70 teams from high schools across Scotland signed up to take part. The six best entries were then chosen and invited to participate in the semi-finals workshop day.

During the workshop the teams will participate in a film-making seminar led by technology expert Mark Pentleton from Radio Lingua.

Pupils will then spend the rest of the day turning their storyboards into short films.

At the end of the day the pupils will have the chance to present their finished films to a panel of judges who will select two teams that will progress to the final stage of the competition.

The final will take place in June and involves a trip to Brussels, where pupils will get to visit the European Parliament and meet their MEPs.

Lenzie Academy are defending the title they won last year.
