Pupils create Euroquiz buzz at Parliament

A TEAM of four Primary 6 pupils from Eastfield Primary took part in the recent national Euroquiz finals in the debating chamber at the Scottish Parliament on Monday 6th June 2011. The team represented North Lanarkshire and competed against 30 other schools from across Scotland.

To secure their place in the final, the Eastfield Primary team of Kayla Divers, Sophie Crimin, Kirsten Wylie and Jonathon Swan fought off competition from 20 other primary schools in North Lanarkshire.

Euroquiz is a competition for Primary 6 pupils which helps them develop their knowledge of Europe and the European Union, as well as core skills such as communication and teamwork. Over 1600 pupils from over 400 schools compete in the heats in all 32 Scottish local authorities, with the winning teams from each going forward to the final in the Scottish Parliament.

Euroquiz is organised by the Scottish European Educational Trust and is sponsored by Standard Life.

Mr John Telford, headteacher at Eastfield Primary said: “We are all so proud of the team’s achievement. They worked hard to reach the final and had a memorable day.”

The winners of the competition were Edinburgh Academy whoh beat Cairneyhill Primary School, Fife, by one point in the final round.
