Pupils have a ball and score learning goals

It was the first time the ‘Get Set & Go’ scheme has been held at Merkland School - with teachers and council officers working alongside Ceartas Advocacy and Clyde FC Community Foundation.

Short classroom sessions were followed by time spent on the football pitch, covering topics such as healthy eating, being active and advocacy.

Deputy headteacher Jim Paterson said: “We are delighted with how well the programme has gone. The pupils have loved it!

“It has been a fantastic experience for every single pupil involved and one which we are hoping to repeat next session.”

Tom Elliott, community development manager for Clyde FC Community, added: “I know the power of football having been working in grassroots football for over 20 years and this programme has been such a success that l’m sure it’s only the beginning for ‘Get, Set & Go’. The kids at Merkland School should be proud of their achievements over the past seven weeks and l look forward to returning again next session.”
