Queen Street remembrance at cathedral and George Square

The event, organised by ecumenical body Glasgow Churches Together, will take place at Glasgow Cathedral on December 22 at 12 noon — exactly one year to the day.

A candle will be lit in remembrance of each of the people who died and those affected.

Church leaders, including Archbishop Philip Tartaglia from the Roman Catholic Church and Scottish Episcopal Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway the Right Rev Dr Gregor Duncan, will lead prayers and reflections.

Glasgow Life has also revealed plans to remember the victims of the crash by letting the amusements at George Square fall silent for one hour.

The ice rink and fairground rides will close as a mark of respect on December 22.

A spokesman said: “The light would not normally be on at the time the accident took place.

“However, Glasgow Life has not taken any booking that coincide with the time of the accident last year. This means the rink will not be in use 2-3pm and the carnival rides will not run 2.15-2.45pm.”
