Campsie and Kirkintilloch North councillor, Charles Kennedy, raised the question at a meeting of the full council.

Last year, East Dunbartonshire Council announced that it would develop a masterplan for the area.

A consultation exercise was carried out at the end of 2011, but little information has been made available to the public since then.

Councillor Kennedy wants to know what will happen to the current Lairdsland Primary School, when the new school is built.

He said: “What’s going to happen to the existing school? Is the site going to be turned into a car park or housing? I want to know when we are going to see the masterplan and when I can tell my constituents what will be in it.”

East Dunbartonshire Council said it’s currently working towards a draft masterplan.

“I want to when we are going to see the masterplan and when I can tell my constituents what will be in it.”

Councillor Kennedy was told at the meeting that a report on the masterplan would be brought before the council.

Thomas Glen, head of development and enterprise at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “The masterplan team is reviewing the information gathered through the consultation, and looking at a technical analysis of the town centre.

“Together this work will be used to develop options for the draft masterplan.

“Once prepared the draft options will be subject to consideration and approval prior to further local stakeholder consultation.”

He added: “It is envisaged that this will work be undertaken over the summer. Details of the next stage of consultation are still to be finalised and will be published and advertised in due course.”
