Radical road plan for Lanark

A VETERAN Lanark businessman, born in an age when there were still horse-drawn carts on the town's streets, is pushing ahead with his vision for a solution to our 21st century traffic problems.

Jack McClanaghan, who was born in 1928 and now lives in retirement in Linthill, is convinced his radical but simple town centre traffic plan addresses most of the town centre's needs in 2010.

Jack thinks his scheme, which would basically see St Nicholas Church turned into a roundabout at the hub of a one-way system around Lanark Cross, would improve the economy of the area and also save lives.

Now he has presented his scheme to the Royal Burgh of Lanark Community Council for it to consider adopting it for formal submission to roads authority South Lanarkshire Council.

The community council, it is understood, is discussing whether or not to make Jack's plan its own.
