Radio winner bags a big summer

Southsider Frances Blair was quick off the mark to take part in a recent radio competition, bagging £5,000 to give her family an unforgettable summer.

The 45-year-old, from King’s Park, had just 60 seconds to answer 10 questions correctly on Clyde 1’s £5K Minute contest — and completed the challenge, much to the delight of sons David (11) and Callum (8).

For Callum, a pupil at St Fillan’s Primary in Cathcart, the cash boost meant a dream drum kit of his very own.

Frances explained: “After seeing a pipe band at the school concert he became obsessed.

“All he talks about is drumming and now he has a set of his own, he is getting really good.

“It might be time he moves the kit into the garage though.”

The competition winner added: “We also went on holiday to Suffolk the day after I won, and it was brilliant because we could just relax and not worry about money - the ice cream was definitely flowing.”

The legal assistant’s last question — to name the capital of Switzerland — was answered in the nick of time, and Clyde 1 DJ George Bowie commented: “We are all absolutely delighted for Frances. I had no idea what the capital of Switzerland was but I’m very glad she did.

“It just goes to show how important it is to listen during Geography at school, one day, it could win you £5,000!”

The Blair family are now off on a second holiday to Prague, thanks to their big win.
