Rallying call for southside groups to fight fracking

A south side group opposed to fracking aims to rally support at a meeting in Queens Park and Govanhill Church tomorrow (Monday).

The event is non-public, and will involve invited local community groups, councillors and community and faith groups.

Organised by Southside Campaign Against Fracking (SCAF) the meeting, at 7.30pm, aims to form a broad front against the principle of unconventional shale oil extraction ahead of the end of the Scottish Government’s consultation on May 31.

A spokesman said: “Presently the oil and gas industry (INEOS) have been granted PEDL licences to drill for shale gas in two areas in the North of Glasgow, Milton and Robroyston.

“A licence has also been granted for neighbouring Bishopbriggs.”
