Raul Mascarenhas is Lanark Lord Cornet 2011

LANARK Cornets Club members have a healthy respect for the man chosen to be this year's Lord Cornet – a popular GP at Woodstock Medical Centre.

Raul Mascarenhas (42), a doctor in Lanark since August 1999, has been picked as the town's standard bearer for 2011.

"I'm shocked to have been chosen," said Dundee-born Raul. "I think I've been picked because I know what Lanimers is all about and how

important it is to the town.

"The committee were looking for a well-known local person who will always live in Lanark, and I think I fit the bill because I'll work here for the rest of my days.

"Apart from when I married Selma in 1998 (the couple now have children Ayla (10), Rohan (5) and three-year-old Kara) being picked is the biggest honour of my life so far."

Raul, of Wellington Terrace, is looking forward to his Lord Cornet duties during June's Lanimer Week.
