A young Lenzie Academy pupil has received royal recognition for her outstanding success in recent school exams.

Rebecca MacLeod was awarded the British Nutrition Foundation Prize for achieving the highest mark in this year’s Standard Grade Home Economics exam.

The Academy pupil was presented with her certificate from The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, who is patron of the British Nutrition Foundation.

Rebecca also received a cheque for £50 and Lenzie Academy received a cheque for £100.

The youngster’s Home Economics teacher, Georgia Kerr, accompanied Rebecca to the special ceremony at the Royal College of Physicians in London.

Lenzie Academy head teacher Brian Paterson said the school was enormously proud of Rebecca.

He added: “It is just reward for her hard work throughout the session and to the dedication, support and high quality teaching she received from one of the best performing departments in the country.

“Rebecca was genuinely shocked when I told her she had won this great accolade and this is typical of her modest and understated approach to things.

“Her certificate of outstanding achievement has pride of place in the school’s display cabinet”.

The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) was established over 40 years ago and aims to deliver authoritative, evidence-based information on food and nutrition in the context of health and lifestyle.

A registered charity, BNF’s work is conducted and communicated through a blend of nutrition science, 
education and media activities.
