Red tape jams charity efforts

A CHARITY fundraiser has hit out at North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘unfair’ public entertainment licence regulations.

David Cooke, chairman of the Cumbernauld Events Forum, has been put out of pocket and had to deal with a headache of licensing regulations for a charity event he is holding in Cumbernauld on Saturday, October 27.

The 21-year-old, from North Carbrain, is putting on the first-ever Oxjam Cumbernauld music festival in the town from 10am to 10pm in the Link Centre to raise funds for the leading UK charity Oxfam.

To host such an event, David is required by the local authority to have a public entertainment licence, which costs £315.

The cost of this licence is free under certain exceptions such as a gala day but David’s charity event is not included.
