Register your child for school

Parents with children starting primary school in August are being reminded to register next week.

East Renfrewshire Council’s registration week runs from January 12-16, and parents are welcome at their local school any day between 1.30 and 3.30pm.

Registration is for children who will be five between March 1 2015 and the end of February 2016.

Parents should bring along their child’s birth certificate, child benefit statement, a copy of a current council tax notice, and a mortgage statement or rental agreement.

Schools will also accept driving licences, utility bills or bank statements if any of the above are unavailable.

Children can be registered for either their local non-denominational or denominational school, which will determine which high school they move on to — and parents are advised to register at their catchment school, even if they intend to make a placement request for another school, defer entry for a year or educate children privately or at home.

To find out more about placing requests (deadline for applications January 31) visit www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk or call 577 3578.
