Remembering the victims of war

East Dunbartonshire Provost Una Walker is urging local residents to mark Remembrance Sunday by attending one of the local commemoration events next Sunday (November 13).

Services organised by local churches and community councils will be held in Auchinairn, Baldernock, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch, Lennoxtown, Milngavie, Milton of Campsie, Torrance, Twechar and Woodilee.

A service organised by the council will also be held at the War Memorial at Bearsden Cross, commencing at around 10.40am nd led by the Rev Kirstin Freeman of All Saints, Bearsden.

It will be attended by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire Pat Steel, representatives of the council, Police Scotland, Royal British Legion Scotland, Community Councils, churches and officers from the 51st Infantry Brigade.

Provost Walker said: “It is only fitting that we pay tribute to the men and women, past and present, of all our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“It will be a great honour for the council to be joined by many so many different people from all walks of life - which will make the commemorations all the more poignant.”

Traffic diversions will be in place in Bearsden, with Drymen Road closed between Ledcameroch Road and Colquhoun Drive between 10am and noon, with no waiting restrictions in place in surrounding streets.
