Kai, a loveable shar pei cross, is all set for his very first Christmas at his new abode.

After the story broke, the Scottish SPCA were inundated with offers to rehome him from as far afield as New York, Los Angeles and the Philippines.

Kai was adopted by engineer Ian Russell in March and now spends his days lazing on the couch or chasing squirrels in the woods around his Newton Mearns home.

Ian (52)said: “Kai has been with me for nearly a year and he has really made himself at home.

“He is a lovely boy and has settled right in. He loves going racing through the woods and chasing squirrels.

“He gets a bit upset if he is left alone so he comes everywhere with me, from work to the pub. Kai has come along great and has mastered how to sit on command, give a paw and a high five – but he isn’t too keen on rolling over unless it’s for a biscuit.

“He really is part of the family. My Dalmatian, Mica, passed away just before Christmas and I was left heartbroken.

“Then when I heard about Kai I volunteered to give him a home and I hadn’t even seen him. Sadly there are people who still give puppies for Christmas and I urge anyone to really think about it – they are a lot of hard work.”
