Residents can have their say on Kilsyth

Now is your chance to have your say on the future of Kilsyth town centre.

North Lanarkshire Council is holding drop in sessions in the town from Monday, June 10 to Saturday, June 15 for residents, visitors and businesses to give their views on how the town centre can be improved.

The sessions are the latest stage of the council’s consultation to help inform the development of a Town Centre Framework and Action Plan.

Each session will run from 10am to 1pm in one of the units in the former co-operative building on Main Street.

Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions and discuss issues of concern, and the public will be asked to complete a questionnaire.

Councillor James Coyle, convener of the planning and transportation committee, said: “We have received some useful feedback from local people in the first stage of our consultation, but we want to hear from as many people as possible with an interest in Kilsyth.

“It’s vital for the future of our town centres that we hear from the people who live, work and shop there. So if you have an opinion, come along to one of the drop in sessions and tell us.

“We want to know what people like about the town centre and what they don’t, what are it’s advantages and disadvantages, what can be improved and how they would like to see Kilsyth on 10 years time.”

The consultation will also include views on new action plans for the Kelvin Valley and the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site.

The new Framework and Action Plan will guide the town centre’s development and management over the next five to ten years.

They will address the wide range of issues, including the design quality of the town centre and its public spaces, accessibility and circulation in and around the town centre, development and diversification opportunities, as well as management, business support, marketing and promotion.
