Residents clean up a stretch of River Luggie

Waterside Residents turned out in force recently to clear the River Luggie and restore the area as a beaty spot.

Waterside Community Council organised the very successful clear up of the Kirkintilloch waterway which passes through the village.

Volunteers were amazed at the amount of rubbish in the river, much of it dumped corrugated iron and bricks perhaps from building work. There were also a large number of tyres, a bike and even a kitchen sink.

The river now looks much better and, following a litter pick of its banks, the pathways along the river once again offer a very attractive natural habitat for a diverse range of wildlife and flowers.

A spokesperson for the residents, said: “We’d like to thank Lisa from local shop Archies who provided an excellent lunch for all our volunteers.”

Watreside Communty Council meets every month in the Subscription School on Bankhead Road where a range of local issues are discussed and a number of loacal projects are planned. The meetings are open to all residents and advertised on the notice board outside the building.
