Residents re-locate

RESIDENTS from Cumbernauld’s high rise flats will soon be on the move as the first phase of an ambitious rehousing project gets underway.

Some 30 new flats in Fleming Road have been earmarked for opening within the next two months – and Allanfauld Road residents will be their first occupants.

About half the applicants who opted for the the move have been accommodated in this first phase. The transfer has been co-ordinated by the Sanctuary group.

Construction workers have been on the site since last summer to create the new development and are now putting the finishing touches to these new homes.

Sanctuary Cumbernauld director Gordon Laurie said: “Those moving have been notified and are awaiting a handover date, which will be within the next couple of months.

“Fleming Road residents will benefit from modern, secure, energy-efficient properties, far removed from the 1960s blocks in which they currently live.”
