Results are top of the class!

It was another record-breaking year for East Ren, as 171 pupils gained five or more Highers at A grade, rising from 141 in 2013.

This year also showed the highest ever number of pupils gaining three or more Higher qualifications, at 60 per cent — while 19 per cent achieved eight or more A grade passes at intermediate two level.

Barrhead and Eastwood high schools recorded their best ever performance at Higher level, and Barrhead, Mearns Castle, St Luke’s and Woodfarm had their best year yet for S4 pupils sitting intermediate two exams.

ERC’s convener for education and equalities, councillor Elaine Green, said: “Once again, our young people have excelled themselves.

“These results are of course achieved by our young people in S4, S5 and S6 but are a testament to the hard work put in throughout their school years.

“Credit must also be given to the commitment and effort of our school staff and parents, who play such a big part in our young people’s successes.”

Glasgow City Council is meanwhile celebrating improved exam rates, with the number of pupils passing three or more Highers by S5 or five or more Highers by S6 is up from 17.6% to 20.3%.

The number of young people with one or more Advanced Highers has also doubled since 2007, to 11.5%.

Councillor Stephen Curran, executive member for education and young people, said: “Glasgow’s exam success is at an all time high and our schools have been awarded a fantastic report card with results up across the majority of indicators.

“Pupils and teachers should be very proud of themselves for their hard work, determination and commitment has paid off and I’m delighted.”

He added: “I realise that not everyone will have got the grades they were expecting.

“I would urge these young people not to panic. They should contact their school where teachers are on hand to discuss alternative options.”
