Return of the light

This year's Electric Glen looks likely to oustrip last year's success.

It is, of course, the welcome return of Electric Glen: only this year it will be in honour of this year being homecoming year.

Last year the event sold out its 10,000 tickets and organisers are pleased to report there are just a few of this year’s 24,000 tickets yet to be picked up.

This year, the talents of local schoolchildren were employed to work on a print pattern project.

Jim Fletcher, leader of East Renfrewshire council, said: “The event brings together some fantastic artists working in visual, sound and performance to bring the heritage of the park to life.

“We’re also delighted to involve local schoolchildren in the creative process — engaging them in a project which teaches them about the cultural history of their doorstep.

“Electric Glen 2014 promises to be a feast for all the senses and definitely a fantastic way to see Rouken Glen Park in a new and exciting way after dark.”

And the event has received praise from the Scottish government.

Paul Wheelhouse, the minister for environment and climate change, said: “Rouken Glen Park is a popular visitor destination throughout the year and Electric Glen is a shining example of a Homecoming Event, celebrating one of Scotland’s most stunning parks and its rich economic and cultural heritage.”
