Rising to challenge

THE LADIES of Rennies bakery in Kilsyth have a better reason than most to stick to their diets - a national TV programme is documenting their efforts.

Despite working in the worst possible place to be when trying to cut back on tasty treats, six workers at the Main Street shop have signed up to take part in a 'drop a dress size' segment being filmed for The Hour.

The group will be taking part in a special workout session at the Broadwood leisure centre, on November 24, to help burn off some of those cream cakes and strawberry tarts!

Then TV show hosts Stephen Jardine and Michelle McManus will be putting the girls on the spot during a live filming, on December 16, to see if they have been successful in achieving their target of dropping down a size.

Shop supervisor Josephine Clancy said: "We're all really excited about getting involved with this. They just phoned us up at the shop and asked if we had anyone who would want to take part.

"Temptation's always there when you're working in here, but we're trying hard.

"Myself and Janice (Cullen] are probably the worst, we eat everything, but we're having to be good.

"We're all bringing in salads, fruit and yoghurt, all of the healthy stuff."

The group have been taking on the challenge for the last two weeks, and it's so far so good.

However, they decided to give themselves a little extra motivation to make sure they always choose the healthy option.

Josephine added: "We decided if we're doing this anyway, we might as well raise a bit of money for a charity while we're at it.

"We chose the Kilsyth Blind and Disabled Club and just have a sponsor sheet in the shop for customers to sponsor us and then we'll give the money to the charity."
