CUMBERNAULD could be set for a mini jobs boost after road markings specialist Markon announced it is to build an industrial unit and office at the Ward Park estate.

The new £1million site could bring at least 11 jobs to the town after Markon pinpointed Cumbernauld as the perfect setting to expand their business.

Iain Gardner, managing director, said: “Markon operate throughout Scotland and it is crucial that we have quick and easy access to the motorway networks.

“Cumbernauld was identified as meeting this requirement, particularly with the new M80 upgrade nearing completion and being just minutes from our facility.”

Initially the company, part of the Leiths Group, will be looking to fill several positions when construction is completed this year with more job opportunities the following year.

Markon will begin recruitment for the new site this year and will primarily advertise vacancies for a receptionist as well as HGV drivers, plant fitters and cleaners.

In the following year applications will be sought for a supervisor role and a management position.

Iain added: “We feel it is important to offer employment locally and support the local community in which we are based, something that is borne out by our long relationship with the residents of Glenboig, who have benefited from employment, support of their primary school, football and boxing teams.”

Stewart Milne Construction have been awarded the contract for building the Ward Park complex.

Dougie McCusker, business development manager for the company said: “In the current economic climate, news of any sort of expansion is obviously very good news.

“For us it is great to be involved in this project which will be of such benefit to the local area.”

Work on the project is now under way and is set to be completed in August.
