Rob Roy move set to be delayed for at least a season

ROB Roy FC chiefs are looking at a new site in their fustrating search for a place to build a new state-of-the-art stadium.

Three years ago the club announced they would be selling-up Adamslie Park and moving to another site in the Hayston area of Kirkintilloch.

But the plans were scuppered when it was revealed the development would encroach on the River Kelvin floodplain.

A site in the town’s Luggie Park then became the preferred option, with a planned opening for the start of the 2012/13 football season, but this has also been abandoned.

Now the club, who have already sold the car park at their Adamslie Park ground to housing developers, have their sights on a plot of land near Southbank Marina.

The club’s general secretary Charles O’Brien told the Herald that the new site received the support of members at a recent meeting, but he admitted there was still no clear date for the move.

He said: “It might take a wee bit longer than we were ideally looking for.

“It seems like we will still be playing football at Adamslie Park next season, but if we can get things moving we could be in our new stadium for season 2013/14.

“We have a deal with the developers that we don’t have to move out of Adamslie until the last switch has been put on the new stadium.”

He added: “The site, across from St Ninian’s High School and behind the marina, has nothing on it at the moment and would be perfect - the central location would hopefully bring more people to our games.

“There is still nothing definite, but we will shortly be having a meeting with the council to take it forward.”

Charles wants the people of Kirkintilloch to rally round and help return the club to success both on and off the park.

He said: “We really need the community to support us and want them to get involved to help us keep ticking over financially.

“It’s been very hard for us in the six years since the social club closed. It is difficult to generate money at the moment.

“We do have a vision though, which is shared by our manager Jimmy Lindsay, and we are sure that this is the best way forward.”
