Robbery in Barrhead

Police are calling for witnesses after an armed robbery at a shop in Barrhead yesterday, Thursday July 9.

Around 5.15pm, a man entered Shopsmart on Springhill Road with a knife and threatened the shopkeeper, demanding money.

The suspect then made off with a three-figure sum of cash.

He is described as white, 6ft, medium build and was wearing a grey hoodie with the hood up and a scarf covering his face. He was also wearing purple/burgundy shorts, red and black trainers and was carrying a black and white polythene bag.

Detective sergeant Raymond Hunter said: “Luckily, nobody was hurt during this incident but it was still a very frightening experience for the shop keeper.

“Officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and examining CCTV footage. Patrols have also been stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.

“I would appeal to anyone with information about this incident to contact police on 101. Or call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where all calls are in confidence.”
