The youngsters donated tinned items including spaghetti, macaroni cheese, soup, beans and ravioli to the local service which is based in Carluke’s Hamilton Street.

Robert Owen Primary head teacher David Lynas praised the efforts of primary four teacher Lyndsey Wallace and her pupils for organising a collection which saw the items donated being presented to Clydesdale Food Bank committee chairperson Liz Barthram.

David said: “I’m very proud of the effort put in by everybody involved.

“We felt that it would be a nice gesture to support the food bank at a time of year when some people are going without the bare essentials.

“It is very sad in this day and age that so many people are having to use the food bank because they have so little.”
