Roof repair work begins on Village church

Members of Cumbernauld Parish Church will worship in the The Village Hall as building work takes place.

The work has been jointly funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and the Church of Scotland.

The funding package totals £84,000 but an impressive £50,000 was raised on top of that by church members.

Church minister Reverend Catriona Ogilvie said: “We are absolutely delighted that the work on the church has now started.

“It is a beautiful and historic church which has been handed down to us through many generations and we owe it to them to ensure that it is passed on, as the very special place that it is, to future generations.

“Getting to this stage has taken a good few years and a lot of hard work by a lot of people. We are particularly grateful for the grant funding, and we would like to give an enormous thank you to all those who have contributed.”

Colin McLean, head of HLF Scotland, said: “Cumbernauld Parish Church provides a gathering place for worshippers, a meeting place for groups of all ages and a venue for local events. We are delighted to be able to secure the future of this fine building so that it can continue to play its valuable role improving the life of many in the community.”
