Royal Mail has second thoughts on delivery office moves

THE Royal Mail delivery offices in Bishopbriggs and Kilsyth will not move to Kirkintilloch.

The company was looking at the potential to relocate the offices due to declining mail volumes and the need to operate efficiently.

However, it has said that the plans have been withdrawn as the move would have a “negative affect” on the operations in the areas.

Royal Mail was looking at relocating the Kilsyth office to either Kirkintilloch or Cumbernauld.

A Bishopbriggs resident raised concerns about the move from Cross Court saying the extra travel and cost would be difficult.

Royal Mail delivery director, Gerry McAuley, said: “We have been reviewing our delivery operations to consider whether they should relocate.

“After careful consideration of the key areas involved, a full assessment has been made and we have decided that a merger will not progress at the moment. Our people and unions have been told of this decision.”
