Russell and Amelia Nellies, Rigside, celebrate their Diamond Wedding
A CHANCE encounter on a Lanark dancefloor more than 60 years ago led to a lifelong partnership, with Russell and Amelia Nellies, of Rigside, celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary last week.
The couple, who live in the village’s Newtonhead Road, originally hailed from, respectively, Douglas Water and Braidwood but were brought together, as were so many local couples of their time, at the Saturday night dances at Lanark’s Memorial Hall.
They wed in Braidwood Welfare Hall on March 27, 1953.
