Safety fearsover bridge

SAFETY concerns have been raised over the North Road Bridge, which runs over the A80 to connect Condorrat with Westfield, Croy and Kilsyth.

Residents have contacted Cathie Craigie MSP and local councillors to say they are worried that the fencing on the bridge, which is heavily used by pupils of St Maurice’s High School, is inadequate.

Cathie Craigie said: “I have deep concerns about the fence on this bridge. It should be higher. The amount of young people crossing it has not been taken into consideration, nor has the fact that many use it while on bikes to get to the nearby cycle track.

“Pupils getting to and from St Maurice’s High School are crossing a bridge with a 1.2 metre fence separating them from a busy motorway below.

“This is not acceptable. Sadly we have experience of accidents and tragedies where people have fallen from motorway bridges.

“The safety of local people is paramount and I have contacted Transport Scotland and the Minister about this.”
