Sandy Hogg: Lanark police information appeal

MYSTERY still surrounds how a man found near to death in a Lanark backstreet sustained his terrible injuries after a night out in the town.

It has now been revealed that 25-year-old Coalburn resident Sandy Hogg might have come by his head injuries by accident – although the possiblity that he was the victim of a vicious attack is far from being ruled out by police.

Indeed, said the head investigating officer Detective Inspector David Tassie, no scenario is being ruled in or out at this stage of the investigation.

It was sparked when Sandy was found lying terribly injured in the North Vennel at the rear of the Scottish Agricultural College on the morning of Saturday, November 6.

"Piecing together Sandy's movements that night is vital to this investigation,'' said DI Tassie.

"What we need is for people to come forward who saw him that night, especially after midnight on Friday when he was last seen, uninjured in the North Vennel."

People can contact the Lanark CID team directly on 01555 552400 or go through the confidential CRIMESTOPPERS line on 0800 555 111.

Sandy remains in a serious but stable condition at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital, which specialises in serious head injury treatment.
