Scenes of a snowy southside

NEWTON Mearns is home to a Transformer - a robot in disguise as a snowman.

Optimus Prime and ice-cool Vladimir are currently keeping a cold eye on Castleton Drive.

They were created by local artist Douglas Roulston, brother-in-law Richard Smith and friend Andrew Hart.

Douglas told The Extra: "I was feeling under the weather and was told to get out of the house, and things just progressed from there.

"It took us four hours on Vladimir and about five and a hald on the Transformer, helped by some of the Castleton Drive neighbours' snow donations.

"We've set the bar now, when there's another significant snowfall I'll have to think of something bigger and better."
