School safety inspections

Education chiefs have moved to reassure parents following a number of schools in Edinburgh being closed due to safety issues.

The schools in question were built by Miller Construction, who have not been responsible for any East Dunbartonshire School, but the council will now be double-checking the buildings.

But Gordon Currie, director of education and children’s services, said: “Given the recent events that have taken place in Edinburgh, and to be robust, independent structural engineering surveys have been commissioned in our PPP schools by InspirED.

“This thorough process is currently underway and the outcome of these surveys will be communicated when complete.

“Our PPP schools were constructed to industry standards and building inspections to date have found them to be structurally sound and in good condition. As a result all schools in East Dunbartonshire will open as normal on Monday, April 18, for our young people and employees.”
