Schools set to go green for the summer holidays
East Dunbartonshire Council is conducting a biomass boiler installation programme in some of its schools in a bid to reduce carbon emissions and achieve fuel savings.
The programme will see the replacement of dated oil and gas heating systems with efficient biomass boilers in four primary schools and two secondary schools - including Gartconner and Oxgang primaries and Lenzie Academy.
The total cost of the investment is approximately £1.5m but the new systems will be highly efficient resulting in significant revenue savings and a Renewal Heat Incentive (RHI) from the Scottish Government.
The majority of the work will be conducted during the school holidays and there will be no disruption to the school day when pupils return in August.
