Science talks to update you

The newly formed Science Group of Bearsden and Milngavie U3A (University of the Third Age) is running a programme of talks in understandable everyday language.

The talks aim to update people on areas of science that will have changed since their school days, and to help people keep abreast of exciting new discoveries.

The meetings are being held at 2pm on the second Tuesday of each month in St Andrew’s Church Hall, Bearsden.

The group is for anyone with an interest in science whether or not they have a scientific background. The talks are followed by a break for refreshments and then continue with questions and discussion. The first meeting was held in April, with a very interesting talk by Dr Billy Martin on ‘Medicines from Plants’, and the next meeting will be held on May 10 with a talk by Dr Peter Davies on ‘Life in the Depths of the Ocean’.

Some occasional visits will also be organised and the first of these will be to Hunterston Nuclear Power Station during August.

The U3A is an organisation for older people who are either retired or semi-retired and who wish to continue learning and following new interests.

It offers its members a chance to develop new skills and interests, share their own knowledge and make new friends. Bearsden and Milngavie U3A now has 32 interest groups covering a wide range of activities and subjects.
