Scot has sights set on London ballet school

Scot Baldie (15) is currently studying at the Glasgow Dance School. He recently auditioned for a place at the prestigious Central School Of Ballet, which is one of the London Royal Conservatoire’s ballet schools.

His mum Alison (48) said: “Scot has achieved this wonderful opportunity through sheer determination, hard work and his passion for ballet. We are overjoyed for him and very keen for him to go, but it is going to cost somewhere in the region of £28,000 to study and live in London for three years.”

She added: “Although my husband and I work very hard, sadly we are not big earners. My husband is a bus driver and I am a hairdresser, so we can’t afford to indulge Scot in his passion.

“As a family we have worked hard to save everything we can but we are in desperate need of extra funding or donations to enable Scot to advance his passion for ballet.

“Even if we combine grants, loans and all our life savings we still don’t have enough to cover the fees, accommodation etc in London, so unless we can raise the extra cash sadly Scot might not be able to go. I know he will be devastated to miss out on such a wonderful chance.

“It breaks our hearts to think he may not be able to follow his dream.”

Scot auditioned for Glasgow Dance School of Scotland aged 12 and was accepted despite having no formal training. He’d never had a ballet lesson before.

Alison added: “He was one of the first children in the Dance School of Scotland’s history to be offered a place with no prior dance experience.

“No one can believe that at only 15 years he fought off fierce competition to get a place at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire.”
