Scotland Street crash leaves one man dead and another in hospital

One man has died while another remains in hospital following a road crash near a southside subway station.

The incident took place around 6.20pm on the westbound carriageway of Scotland Street, and involved a BMW and a Mercedes recovery vehicle.

According to Police Scotland, two men were in the process of recovering another vehicle which had broken down on the street when they were struck by the BMW.

Emergency services rushed the two men, aged 62 and 48, to the Southern General, where the 62-year-old succumbed to his injuries.

The 48-year-old is said to be in a serious but stable condition, while the driver of the BMW was uninjured but “badly shaken up”.

Scotland Street was closed for several hours as investigators worked at the location.

Enquiries are underway into the circumstances of the crash, and the road policing unit has issued an urgent appeal for witnesses.
