Scots lead the way in the care of IBD patients

Clare Adamson MSP sponsored the launch of the national blueprint at Holyrood.

The Scottish Parliament event celebrated the publication of Scotland Leading the Way, an important new initiative which aims to improve services for the 26,000 people in Scotland living with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

The National Blueprint is the first of its kind in the UK and is designed to ensure that people living with IBD in Scotland receive equitable, timely and appropriate care, thereby improving their health, and ability to participate in education, work, social and family life.

It sets out the key components of an IBD service for Scotland, drawing on real life experience and examples from health boards.

Ms Adamson said; “I was really pleased to sponsor the reception to promote the new National Blueprint because my constituents living with IBD in Motherwell and Wishaw deserve access to the best possible care and support available.

“Supported by the Scottish Government, the National Blueprint was the culmination of three years collaborative work between clinicians, patients and Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

“When implemented locally, the National Blueprint will make a positive difference and improve the quality of life of hundreds of my constituents living with IBD.”
