Search on to find '˜Woman of the Year'

The Milngavie and Bearsden Herald - in conjunction with Kirkintilloch and District Soroptimists - has launched a major search to find East Dunbartonshire's Woman of the Year.

The competition will run over the coming weeks, with all entries being considered by a special judging panel at the end of February.

Alice Mackenzie, of Soroptimist International of Kirkintilloch and District, explained: “The background of Soroptimism is firmly established in service, and so it is fitting that we should choose to honour a local citizen in this way.

“We hope to have many entries in our competition and are sure that we will have a very worthy winner of our Woman of the Year title.”

Organisations and individuals are invited to submit nominations for the competition, and the organisers are adamant that age will not be a barrier.

The only stipulation is that those nominated must live within the East Dunbartonshire area.

You probably all know someone worthy of the title. It could be someone who has done a lot of good work through fundraising; someone who has recorded a great personal achievement; someone who has worked tirelessly for the benefit of the community; someone who has served her neighbourhood or community through voluntary work; or someone who has shown great courage and determination.

Whatever the reasons for nominating the woman of your choice, we would like to hear from you. All you have to do is fill in the entry form and return it to the given address as soon as possible. Extra entry forms are available from Soroptimist members.

Alice said: “We hope this award will make people more aware of Soroptimism and of the achievements of women.”

Nominations scan be sent to: Woman of the Year, Herald Offices, 11 Dalrymple Court, Kirkintilloch G66 3AA.

Closing date for entries is Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
