COULD Lanark’s future lie in becoming `Scotlandtown’?

Using the burgh’s past as a typical, traditional Scottish market town to forge a fresh future was just one of many ideas floated at the second meeting of the newly-reformed Lanark Business Group on Monday evening.

A gathering of around fifty local businessmen and women and several of the area’s politicians gathered at Wetherspoon’s Clydesdale Inn to get the reborn organisation formally constituted.

Work on a bid for the investment and promotion the initiative might bring will start after the Group addresses a more immediate need - how can Lanark best cash in on Christmas, now just a few months away?

Again, there was no shortages of ideas, the Group assuming that it will be taking over the reins of the annual Lanark Christmas Market when the current organiser retires after this year’s event on November 17.

As for this year, the Group decided that its own late-opening pre-Christmas shopping night be held with November 30 - St Andrew’s Day - pencilled in for the event.
