Seeds of good ideatake root

A COMMUNITY project to transform a neglected piece of land into a pleasant landscaped environment is now well underway.

Gardening enthusiasts, children and companies have all pooled their resources to redevelop the plot in Prospect Road, Dullatur, led by Cumbernauld Environnmental Society. The work got underway on June 2, helped by children from Craigard Nursery. Local councillors Bob Chadha and Barry McCulloch also attended, as did Gregg McClymont MP.

The newly-founded society is chaired by Bobby Johnstone. As a former head of landscaping with Cumbernauld Development Corporation, Bobby oversaw the planting of around 250,000 trees in the New Town. While his current project is somewhat smaller in scale, he is no less enthusiastic about it.

“It’s great to see what people can do when they come together like this,” he said.

Margaret Smillie, society secretary, added: “We would like to thank everyone who has suported us so far. This is just phase one of our project as we are also applying for grants to build a picnic area and play area near Broadwood Loch.”
