Selfish parking by day trippers impeded rescue of injured man at Devil’s Pulpit

Selfish day trippers parking dangerously impeded the rescue of an injured man at the Devil’s Pulpit.

Police, ambulances and Lomond Mountain Rescue Team were hampered in reaching the area where the man slipped and is suspected to have broken his arm, according to a report in the Daily Record.

The motorists who dumped their cars in emergency vehicle lay-bys have been branded selfish and inconsiderate.

The 39-year-old man, believed to be from the Glasgow or surrounding area, slipped at the beauty spot at Finnich Glen, near Killearn on Monday afternoon.

Mountain rescue workers have also urged those visiting Stirling’s beauty spots to be more considerate.

Forth Valley Police Division said: “Given the location of the injured person, assistance was required from Lomond Mountain Rescue Team.

“However, emergency services vehicles were hampered by vehicles parked in emergency vehicle lay-bys and by selfish and inconsiderate parking.

“If you are attending rural areas, please consider where you are parking your vehicle. Access roads/gates and emergency vehicle lay-bys are there in the event of an emergency and should not be used for parking.

“On this occasion, thankfully the injured person was safely rescued by MRT.”

Visitors have been flocking to local beauty spots since the easing of lockdown and that has led to several instances of dangerous parking, which has on occasion obstructed emergency services from attending incidents.

The Observer earlier this month reported how ambitious plans for a £2 million visitor attraction at the Devil’s Pulpit was approved after councillors overruled planning chiefs.
