Serial spitter avoids jail stretch

A persistent offender with a habit of spitting at police officers has avoided jail at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Laura Langford (20), of Laurel Drive, Craigneuk, was put under supervision for a year and ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work after admitting a string of charges.

She kicked a police officer and spat on her in Shotts last November then spat on a sergeant’s face at Motherwell police station.

Langford spat on one officer and kicked another at Wishaw General Hospital on March 15 then two months later hit Michael McConnachie on the head with a box at a house in Wishaw.

In June last year she grabbed Jacqueline Topping by the hair and struck her repeatedly on the face. That happened at KFC in Wishaw.

The court heard Langford kept offending despite getting bail four times.
