Series of events to mark Mental Health Week in East Dunbartonshire

Mental health will come under scrutiny in a week long series of events across East Dunbartonshire.

Anxiety will be the specfic focus, as it has been revealed that up to 12 per cent of adults can experience it.

Mental Health Week, which runs from Monday, May 12 till Sunday, May 18, will stress the fact that all of us experience anxiety at some point in our lives, ranging from unpleasant feelings of apprehension to severe symptoms which can affect work and relationships.

Over the week, the following events will take place:

On Monday, May 12, there will be information stalls along with craft demonstrations and home baking in Milngavie Town Hall.

There will also be a ‘health walk’ between noon and 2pm, starting at the town hall.

The next day, in the Connections office at 70 Dalrymple Court, Kirkintilloch, there will be drop-in sessions from 9am till 7pm where people can call in to talk to someone about anxiety and depression.

There will be information stalls at St David’s Church Hall, Kirkintilloch, from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, May 14 and more drop-in sessions at the Connections office (same times) the next day.

There will also be a ‘health walk’ between noon and 2pm, starting at the church.

On Friday, May 16, again at St David’s, there will be a presentation on anxiety at 1.30pm and a ‘mindfulness’ presentation - where people are encouraged to live in the moment - at 1.30pm.
