Shadow pensions brief for Gregg

GREGG McClymont has received a plum promotion following a shadow cabinet reshuffle last week - as the Cumbernauld Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East MP is now shadow pensions minister.

The 35-year-old Kildrum native received an unexpected telephone call from Labour leader Ed Miliband last Friday, advising him of the new appointment

It follows Mr McClymont’s previous appointments as parliamentary private secretary to shadow Secretary of State for Scotland Ann McKechin, and a move to the Labour front bench as an assistant whip, since being elected in May 2010.

Mr McClymont told the News and Chronicle: “When Ed phoned me on Friday I had no inkling of what was coming. The pensions brief is a big job but one I will relish.

Pensions is one of the greatest issues facing this country. It is the issue which dominates my mailbag.”

He added: “I have received more letters emails and phone calls from constituents about pensions than any other issue. I look forward to standing up for them.’’
