And photos and other mementos will be displayed on the birthday, with a variety-style performance by several local groups, with all proceeds from ticket sales for this performance going to Poppy Scotland.

Lanark Memorial Hall is the town’s War Memorial, built by local families to commemorate the war dead, but alongside the memorial vestibule there is a hall which has seen decades of concerts, dances and parties.

In the last decade it has undergone a massive facelift, and a spokesman for the birthday celebrations explained:

“During our opening week, three years ago, we heard lots of lovely stories of how so many local couples met and fell in love in the venue when ‘the dancing’ was held here, or how many budding superstars trod the boards during one of the shows that the local drama groups put on every year for the local community.

“We would love to see your photos and memories of these.

“We are looking for photos, videos or stories to display in the venue during our 90th birthday celebration, which takes place on Friday April 29, with a variety style performance.

If you have some memories you wish to share about your event or show or celebration in the hall, contact LanarkMemorial@southlanarkshireleisure.co.uk or phone Debbie Neill on 01555 667999.

Tickets for the performance are on sale now at £5 each and these can be bought from the booking office on 01555 667999 or at www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk.
