Shawlands parking campaign continues

THE Extra’s Parking Mad campaign is approaching 100 signatures protesting against Glasgow city council’s move to increase parking charges for Shawlands.

As of December 6, on-street parking on Kilmarnock Road rose from 20p per hour to 80p p/h.

The petition reads: “We call on Glasgow city council to a) review its on-street parking policy, and b) actively engage the opinions of stakeholders in Shawlands regarding future proposals.”

Gordon McDermid commented: “Shawlands has gone downhill so badly...parking charges will finally kill it off.

“It will also cause huge parking issues for residents as more visitors to the area park away from the main roads.”

Others have voiced a need for greater investment in Shawlands as a whole, and a focus on encouraging eco-friendly travel.

The deadline for signatures is Jan 9, and the petition can be found here.
