Shawlands playground will soon be a jungle

Community Project Fund aims to increase community use of local greenspace, particularly within disadvantaged communities, in order to improve quality of life for residents.

Beneficiaries include the Pollokshields Trust, which has been awarded £975 funding for its Mark Makers project.

Funding will go towards helping to deliver the ‘Ready Steady Grow’ event at a previously derelict bowling green which will be used for growing food.

Another local group to gain a grant is Shawlands Primary School Parent Council, which has been awarded £800 towards their project to re-imagine the concrete playground.

The cahs will help to create a jungle bike shed in the playground,using creeping plants and planters, and will provide the children with an outdoor learning space.

CSDGNT chairman Keith Geddes said: “The standard of applications to this year’s fund was fantastic and we have awarded the grants to a wide range of greenspace activities right across the central belt.

“Small-scale local initiatives like the jungle bike shed at Shawlands Primary School are instrumental in achieving our goal of creating a high-quality green network across central Scotland to improve the quality of life for local communities.”
