Sheep raises £840 for charity at Lanark Auction Market

A SHEEP sold at Lanark Agricultural Centre (the new Market) on Saturday turned out to have a golden fleece for a charity very close to the heart of the farmer who sold it.

Owner Gordon Graham put Kypeview Maggie, an in-lamb Texel, up for sale at the Scottish Texel Club sale that day in aid of Help for Heroes, the charity dedicated to helping and supporting wounded servicemen returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Gordon, of Kypeview Texels near Sandford, told the Gazette: "I was a

serviceman myself and my son is currently serving with the intelligence corps in the Army and so this is a charity very close to my heart.

"I decided to put one of my best sheep — named after my mum Maggie — up for sale in aid of the fund."

The sheep actually sold for 800 guineas (840) to an Ayrshire buyer at Lanark on Saturday.
